Here at KIS we offer a wide variety of workshops, starting with our beginners and the Sampler Quilt/Quillow workshops to more advanced patchwork and arty workshops using outside tutors.
Beginners Workshops
Learn to piece nine blocks and make them into a small quilt.
Every Wednesday 10am – 1pm (other days are bookable subject to availability).

Learn from the best, all you need to know to start free motion quilting.

Lexicon Book Cushion
This is a great beginners project and is also fun for more experienced sewists. Based on charm squares – buy a pre-cut pack or cut your own to make this super simple design that looks complicated! Includes a handle so your little ones can take their book to their favourite reading nook. An easy-to-sew envelope back completes this delightful project. Each student will receive a full set of instructions, with photos and diagrams, so you can complete the project at home – and make more of them! This is a machine sewing class. Suitable for all levels.

New York Beauty Tote Bag or Cushion Panel
I have always been fascinated by the New York Beauty blocks and have made several projects based on these in recent years. In this class we will learn about constructing these blocks and you will receive the patterns for four different blocks which you can combine in many different ways. Some experience of Foundation Paper Piecing would be useful for this class, but is not essential for a confident sewist. Each student will receive a full set of instructions, with photos and diagrams, so you can complete the project at home – and make more of them! This is a machine sewing class. Suitable for confident beginners upwards.

Flying Squad Workshop Pouch
This useful zip case, which opens into a bowl, is perfect for keeping all your workshop essentials together and easily accessible while you work. The project contains a little bit of everything; basic cutting and piecing, quilting and binding and a simple zip placement. The little accessories are made from the off-cuts, I do hate wasting anything! Each student will receive a full set of instructions, with photos and diagrams, so you can complete the project at home. This is a machine sewing class. Suitable for confident beginners upwards.

Seminole Bag
We had such fun with Seminole Patchwork a couple of years ago that we thought we’d have another play! The shiny gold fabric in this design raises this little bag above the rest – smart enough for work or an evening out. You will have the patterns for four Seminole pattern bands and information on bag making. Each student will receive a full set of instructions, with photos and diagrams, so you can complete the project at home This is a machine sewing class. Suitable for confident beginners upwards. Knowledge of rotary cutting essential.

Charlemagne Elephant Panel
This jolly fellow would make a brilliant cushion front or bag panel and all that detail is created by Foundation Paper Piecing (FPP). Some experience of FPP would be useful for this class, but is not essential for a confident sewist since I will be giving you step-by-step instructions. Star of Persia Lap Quilt or Large Table Centre
Oh, we do like a quilt that looks complicated but is, in fact, very simple. The woven star illusion is created with one easy Foundation Paper Pieced (FPP) block in various colours. No experience of FPP is needed for this class since I will be giving full step-by-step instructions on this versatile technique. Each student will receive a full set of instructions, with photos and diagrams, so you can complete the project at home. This is a machine sewing class. Suitable for confident beginners upwards.
